Hello everyone,
Thank you all for the letters many of you sent to the Indiana Parole Board regarding offender kevin ward. Thankfully, the offender was DENIED parole yesterday, April 20, 2010.
Below is a recap of the original email sent to all of you:
On August 24, 1993 Henry Co Sheriff Deputy, Tony Huffman was injured very badly in the line of duty during an investigation of a car that was parked on the side of a road.  The offender had a sawed off shotgun &  shot Tony, striking him under his arm.  The buckshot entered through his chest, destroying much of his spinal cord. The offender then beat Officer Huffman with the butt of the shotgun, then stole the officers car; and ran over him as he fled the scene. Officer Huffman did survive this attack, and is confined to a wheelchair and had to retire from the department. The offender was sentenced to 36 years in prison.
The offender was released early on probation in 2006.  However, In 2007 he resisted law enforcement officers when they arrived on a domestic battery call. He was charged with  battery on his wife and resisted law enforcement and is back in prison.
Thank you all for your continued support!  Your letters do make a difference! If you have any questions, please let me know.

The 2010 Bike Ride Is In the History Books!!

The 2010 ride was again a huge success for the riders and Indiana COPS.  Most of the riders chose this year to ride all 13, yes count them 13, days for just under 1000 miles around our state raising funds and meeting with survivors.  They were blessed to raise $29,000 for our scholarship funds, $24,000 of which was given out to recipients at the closing ceremony.  Congratulations and good luck with your schooling.  Our heartfelt thanks go out to the cycling committee and all its members for their hard work on this years ride.

Any ride questions should be sent to Rich Crawford at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

COPS COUNSELING PROGRAM

Indiana COPS counseling program has changed hands recently.   Dr. Bill Shipley, head of the White River Psychology, Inc. has moved from the area and we greatly thank him for his assistance in providing assistance to our survivors as they deal with the loss of their loved one.  To replace Dr. Shipley, Indiana COPS has contracted with four doctors.  Dr. Keith Magnus of Professional Psychological Services has agreed to provide counseling to survivors, regardless if you are family, friend or co-worker. We have contracted with Dr. Nathan Ferreira of Individual & Group Counseling Pyschoeducational Programs to work with our younger survivors.  Indiana COPS has made arrangements to cover the cost of all sessions and provide this service to all survivors at no cost. We encourage anyone interested in utilizing the counseling service contact Molly Winters at the Indiana COPS office and she will make the arrangements for you.
